A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE AMORY HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1998 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Amory High School Panthers Football Team finished the 1998 season with an outstanding record of 15 wins and no losses; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers fought and defeated Water Valley and Kossuth in the state playoffs, beat Shannon to win the North Half Championship and won the Class 3A State Championship by defeating Magee; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers shutout four teams this season, scoring a total of 591 points during the season while limiting their opponents to a total of only 165 points; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon various team members in recognition of their fine, dedicated play this season, including: Chris Barnett, Scott Burroughs, Kevin Childs, Garfield Garth, Steve Griffin, Will Hall, Marcus Marsh, Mario Marsh, David Mooneyham, Levin Morgan, John Peters, Wale Polk, Brian Reed, Eric Swan and Rory Thornton; and

WHEREAS, the Amory High School Panthers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Bobby Hall and Assistant Coaches Pat Byrd, David Easley, Leroy Gregg, Ricky McCall and Chad Williams, who have broadened the Panthers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Hall has brought honor to Amory High School by being named the Monroe County Coach of the Year and the head coach for the next Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Assistant Coaches Pat Byrd, David Easley, Leroy Gregg, Ricky McCall and Chad Williams were selected as the 1998 Division 2 Class 3A Coaching Staff of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Amory High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Amory High School Panthers Football Team and their coaches, Head Coach Bobby Hall and Assistant Coaches Pat Byrd, David Easley, Leroy Gregg, Ricky McCall and Chad Williams, for their phenomenal 1998 season, for winning the Class 3A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Amory High School, Head Coach Bobby Hall and Assistant Coaches Pat Byrd, David Easley, Leroy Gregg, Ricky McCall and Chad Williams.
